A little bit more about Food4Kids:
Food4Kids started in Hamilton in 2012 when Founder, Lena Bassford, met the child mentioned above one cold wintry morning. School nutrition programs feed kids during the school day, but there was a clear gap where kids living in deep poverty were going hungry on the weekends. Lena and a team of dedicated volunteers developed the Food4Kids program and grew it into a major success in Hamilton and Halton. Soon, other communities were noticing Food4Kids and its impact and other passionate individuals started Food4Kids in their areas too.
There are now 5 affiliated chapters providing healthy food for 3,500 children each and every weekend. Food4Kids also launched a Summers Without Hunger program, where volunteers hand deliver food directly to the homes of our kids, all summer long.
While we cannot eliminate poverty and hunger, we can ensure our community's most disadvantaged children, have access to food, critical to their physical, emotional and academic development.
